corner view ≈ the sea, the sea...

... over time, we did splash out on glorious sea beaches in the mediterranean, the egidean, the baltic; we trodded over north sea sands, and clambered heavy rock in the south and in the west.

(old postcard from here)
i've lived by the north sea, in england, in the eighties. once upon a very long time ago i stared into the gulf of san francisco and i've tasted the atlantic on my lips.

☻ a grey day for the latter it was too. i remember the company i was in. i'd met up with someone in new york, who prooved frightfully boring. fleeing to new jersey, i met up with the very bore's niece, who turned out to be the immensely bubbly kind, ironically reflecting the impressive ocean. the family was living on an air base. they showed me round the mess several times, praising it like it was nobody's business. i wasn't into uniforms anyway, so i stayed the proverbial night, the polite thing to do. reverse excitement was all mine when i was younger, drifting seemed the kinder way to do it.

somehow all that lies so far behind me now, as if washed away by the waves of the sea, the sea. the glorious sea.

  4. I love your post! So full of memories... The sea, always the sea. I have a lot of tenderness for the North sea ("la mer" de mon enfance) with its paper flowers bought with shells and "sea kniffes". The picture of you is precious.
    Have a good day!

frolicking in the waves of the days here and gone and here again...
Your connections with the sea, that you share, tell a story of who you are and how we are all formed by our experiences...and close to the sea there is definitely a special energy:))

  15. Nice post, and photo of you as a child. I too lived in the UK in the 80s, and I also have tasted some of the oceans, once upon a very long time ago - they're not the same waters as the my sea.

  31. I love it when I imagine so many beautiful memories. This post is,with all its letters, beautiful and full of coincidences.
You know my name and the oceans are so close in meaning,as I wish my life was too related to that vast, inmense amount of life and beauty.
And the picture of you in Nules... Well that's beautiful too, thinking of you having tasted these sunny, rocky beaches nineteen years before I tried them, well... I've always been a coincidence freak and I probably will be for the rest of my life, and I always liked this little paysage connection between you and me.
    Big kisses!
