corner view ≈ bright

on a bright sunny day, one can see forever. i've adapted the {film} title a little to today's theme. also recycling a weekend post, on which a dear friend told me how vincent van gogh painted pictures from tableaus his brother sent him. residing in the eclectic south, after his grim northern hemisphere séjour, the man must have learned a thing or two on brightness.

imagine stepping in a great artist's footsteps for a moment, taking in the composition, considering the colour palette, learning from the brush strokes, seeing a masterpiece resurrect under your very eyes and hands, for copying a winning combo. in a way, that must lend a trumendous feeling, non? and perhaps aplomb?

i've yet to do it, but i've been thinking about copying. paying hommage to a favourite artist, by painting established work over. and over. instead, i've been stalling on my cartoon, naturally, pushing out radars in all directions but drawing. since the weekend however i have been sketching again, pushing in this play buttonjane's corner view, francesca's theme.

  2. You've reminded me of an artist I know who did a whole series of copies of famous artist's most famous paintings. She attempted to use their same colour palette, brush strokes and even music playing from their era. She put on a sale/fundraiser with most of the paintings selling. It helped keep her gallery open. I'm not sure I could do that but it would be a good way to explore and learn from the masters. Let us know where you go with all this. xo Carole

  3. Spring has arrived to your corner of the world. Love it! I don't know if you eat white asparagus, but I love this time of year in Germany and asparagus is one of the reasons why not to say to the strawberries are just amazing.

  4. Spring looks beautiful and bright there, I love the greens...and the furrows. Something in your post makes me think also of the movie Dreams, by Kurosawa. Do you know it? In one scene he recreates a Van Gogh painting and the main character walks thru the painting and looks to meet Van Gogh. The second photo and your story of wanting to re-create a painting make me think of it. Great ideas and series! ♡

a long time ago i experimented a bit copying a masterpiece or two, what i remember is that i loved to mix just that right shade of color the master did use, i learned a few things about color there, x
