corner view ≈ to be {or not to be} an artist, and bounce

thrift shop wall find - is it art?

·
until recently i've not completely understood big art, art that hangs in galeries and museums, art that is praised high. why? you and i both know, art goes hand in hand with commerce. artists who are using their grey cells besides creating, get the dosh. and recognition, for that matter. not always fair deuce, but there it is: the economy of art.
·
thrift shop wall find - is it art?

·
on the other hand, fair enough. efforts must be rewarded, and choices will have consequences. closer to home, if ever what i do would be considered art, i'd feel well thrown, in a quizzical sense. i feel i create. i cannot live without creating. throughout life, creating has saved me time and again. i think, because creation is what we are, in essence.
·
on that level, i prefer calling myself an artisan. i don't care for high promotion, i lack ambition to make a living out of what i make, and i consciously steer away from one of art's biggest and noblest issues: raising awareness, causing doubt.

potter is what i'll do. write like crazy. draw the life out of me ☻. and shoot wherever, whenever i can.
·
it's here for the community to enjoy {and thank you all, for doing so, time and again!}.
·
for that other bit of profoundly necessary inspiration, the pond which will make me ponder, i'll check out any museum, i'll make good use of my eyes (like every moment of the day and night - oh! insomnia!), and i'll bounce. time and again. i will.

for your eyes only {renov # 28}

second hand cooker autumn in the garden rainy skies, but dry

round-up. with the second toilet downstairs came august rain and a ceiling corner leek from the above flat roof. the latter seems to have been tackled, holding my fringers crossed. part of a secondhand kitchen, a well loved and well used cooker flew our way, thank you to the generous obliger! a secondhand washing up sink fell through. twice. now i'll hopefully be getting a third one from another collegue. it's a seventies lady, which will be getting four legs, and will provide us with necessary running water downstairs. i suppose i could have put in a second tap leading from the washing machine? ah well.

often felt like walking out! ;)))
view from second floor landing before the new window
lower part to the second floor landing window

yes, there has been a lot happening in the background, i forget. luckily there's all of you always encouraging me. it's funny how i sometimes can only feel the progress through your eyes and voices... as if i need to stand back, listen and then see all of it, through new eyes. so thank you, gang out there, for your eyes! you've been the best audience, even when activity here dwindled down to next-to-nothing. my next post on this adventure will take awhile. as you may have noticed, alot of necessary plastering to do, which will hopefully lead us to white heavens once again.

front of house!

·
there's two huge cupboards coming home at last. they are the very last refugees to this, our ridiculous two-year-moving-crusade.
·
these biggies couldn't make the downstairs hallway-into-rooms-bend. now they'll be received, flat-on-their-backs, through the big, big front room window.
·
i can't wait to kiss them {just hope the builders from across the road don't witness my act of folly}.
·

image from last summer - these days dark around 6pm

·
the landings are crying for paint. of course they are. i hear them. i s-h-u-s-s! them. all in due course, and do not rush me!
·
i honestly don't think i will ever move again, and i don't think i will ever re-no-va-te again.
·
at least,
i-do-not-think-so. ☻

drawing | ghost

fittingly, in the background, i let run ACORN ANTIQUES, as i was doing this week's drawing. whilest being a veritable blast from the past, the sitcom works equally well as an audio play. part of victoria wood's 1985 satirical television shows, the extraordinary characters in the english antiques shop charm me today as they did many years ago, all while assuming people don't change much and humour is timeless. unless they'd become ghosts, disappearing behind a street corner. norma invites us to a well and true hallowe'en gathering.

temporary workroom on first floor - notice broken window in back

·
almost two years ago we moved from a rented to a second time buy, in the middle of our street.
·
since, we've been working hard on doing the place up, as you may have noticed here, at regular intervals. towards premature completion, i have mixed feelings about renovating.
·

what flowers are these?

·
while not wanting to classify it solely under stressful, it has taken too many years of my life. though result counts, the road to and through it has always been rocky, even when plain sailing. as progress has been happening at lightening speed, it has put my life on hold; it has had an impressive impact on our dailies, on love, on hopes, on fears, on friendships.
·

the breakage

·
when i broke the workroom window last winter, i didn't expect the spanish inquisition. - wha'ppened
·
life happened.
renovation happened.
bad luck happened.
·
no exciting story behind a broken window, even if the reason for the breakage was somewhat dramatic.
·
cracks get mended, that's what we do.
·
upstairs done - halfway through

·
bathroom, future tinyLIBRARY, landing view, not to forget the front door have been revamped thoroughly.
·
what do the eels call it again? fresh feeling. {hard to find half decent version, but perhaps listen here} they may not have been talking windows, but they sure hit a nail or two on accomplishing facts. whether be love or windows, today we got ourselves a clearer view. at last.

·
as daily life {in the office} goes on, and i do need daylight to show off better, a follow-up post on all of this by the weekend.
·

eight times a day {renov #26}

railway station graffiti in a village nearby aalst, flanders
·
i've got it all planned. then life happens and i get a fraction of the plans done. because i've peculiarly been denied a proper kitchen for nigh on two years now (no, i don't count the camping stove i've used till now), i cook in batches, which results in ridiculous washing up races up and down flights of stairs (for lack of a proper sink), eight times a day. it's making the beatles blush! ☻
·

neko on bathroom window sill
·
i trod along. nigellissima has been keeping the home fires burning and the senses longing (!).
·
we're pretty close now. next tuesday the new windows arrive, the fridge moves one flight down and the newly acquired second hand furnace will be adding to our daily excitement.
·
chicks found in thrift shop

·
behind the proverbial screens, many other plans are running and some have been stalled. the tinyWOOLF shop is closed for now, but is percolating. the mentioned two sissi's are patiently awaiting in the sideline; putting it mildly, the project needs airing, and most of all time.
·
meanwhile another horizon is pushing itself forward. it's a happy one, more excitement, all in due course. i'll know better than to blab my tongue°. [°i do mean i'll hold my tongue].
·
lilies on first floor landing

·
are you getting curious? believe me, so are we. a nightmare of too small or too big windows has already occurred, but chances are things will be well. after the delivery, it's all hands on {plaster} deck again, so we're counting on a white christmas, besides glorious double glazed winter heat and last but not least, a working shower!
·
not that the one is particularly related to the other; the binding is in the plaster.
·

neko licking the empty bowl

·
wishing you as much joy as we are currently hitting upon. let's say we bow to homemade ice cream and amarena cherries.
·
all those necessary breaks, right?
·
a renovation update with proper images is coming up!

if quality paper is made of cotton pulp and trusted trees, and while trees breathe through their leaves; if you find yourself leafing through books and magazines and other leaflets on a somewhat daily basis, ...  can i have the wordy leaf count for this week's challenge then?

drawing | driftwood

who'll put the bin outside? who will sweep the floor? who is going to build a fire? who will ask for more? just a few lines welling up after much repeated air play of byrne and co. sometimes what a {favourite} artist does, sticks to the mind like glue and won't drift. not like wood would. mano came up with this very intriguing theme, which i could but interpret in my usual two dimensional way. actual manipulation of driftwood... if only. ☻

drawing challenge | leaf
some things will never change, and come back each year. like fall, e.g. other things don't change either: i start drawing and won't stop till i drop. especially if a leaf from the corner view book is involved. instead of going outside to peer through my trusted camera lens, i'd rather just doodle one up. well, sort of doodle anyway. sun announced here today (or is that wishful thinking?). have a nice one, everyone. ♥ jane's corner view, francesca's hosting, cole's theme.

i wonder why macro is yet again playing leads.

perhaps it is all that doodling from last week, therefore a new found passion in illustrating.

corner view ≈ street art

brussels, marolles

·
what world would we live in, if street art were to go?
·
this beauty i found just the other day, round the corner from where i work. it's on the whole side of a building, on the corner of an alley. as i returned from a brisk lunch walk, it surprised me. intricate, the design, don't you find? i've no close{r} up, lacking my camera.

·
but i take to peeling paint for street art as well. its lines and indentations telling stories, of ages, darker than ours. it is giving away so much.
