crows are black as ravens, that's why our thumping hearts hold the ravens {/crows} in, so the tower would be kept from tumbling (oh, england, my lionheart; kate bush).
·
i don't think any research has pleased me half as much as this one on the crow. despite its unpeachy characteristics, the crow is an immensely popular bird! i may have learned a thing or two on crowing. ahem.

what would happen if you shot one crow?
find out, over at carole's! cheers ♥

"In Irish mythology, crows are associated with Morrigan, the goddess of war and death.[30] The god Bran the Blessed whose names means 'crow' or 'raven' is associated with corvids and death. His severed head is said to be buried under the Tower of London facing toward France, a possible origin for the keeping of ravens in the Tower, which are said to protect the fortunes of Britain. In Cornish folklore crows and particularly magpies are again associated with death and the 'otherworld', and must always be greeted with respect. The origin of 'counting crows' as augury is British; however the British versions rather count magpies - their black and white pied colouring reflecting the realms of both the living and the dead."

Nadine, Crow Target has reminded me of a farmer I knew years ago who would shoot one crow, tie its feet together and then hang it above the chicken pen. He told me. "it keeps the other crows away". I'm sure he'd not like my practise of throwing bread crusts out to the crows!
ReplyDeleteLove your crow and his spats! xo Carole
Nadine I love this bird's attitude. Love it. Those spats. Oh hello are they swell. Just swell footwear. Wouldn't this make the mostest of the mostest best mail art to receive in a snail mail form? Way fun this artwork is. Love it. N. xo
ReplyDeleteand Frankie says further '... don't do that!' Don't shoot the crow,
ReplyDeletedearest Nadeschda!
I love your pretty crow with spats on. Makes visible how they are able to stride, one feet before the other. (your first pic of your drawing touches my heart in a special way, maybe the innocence of it?)
I've been to your kitchen... mouthwatering! I'm very hungry now...
Love
Ariane.

ReplyDeleteacrow with spats I love it they have such muscular legs for a bird and spats are perfect attire for their funny little walk. It does make me sad to think they shoot them as I would ove one as a pet.
great artwork and the "record" eyes of a raven rings true ;)
Helen :)
Oh, yeh! Nadine, you have capture a saucy crow here! Those spats tell a tale for sure. Great! -sus
ReplyDeleteWe have a chinese book (in translation), with beautiful illustrations, and it's about the myth of how rice became a staple food, through the story of the 10 suns, and the 10 moons. The crow flys the suns up to the sky each morning.

ReplyDeletethere are crows in my garden, they sit high up in the birches, their kra-kra's rolling through the air and i love it, remembering me of special moments and the bird itself has that feel to me as if it comes from an ancient world, as if they have seen so much and know us human beings very well.
as always i love your different approach of this challenge, clear and full of messages at the same time, very, very touching, xx
