corner view ≈ iconic

icon... me thinking, the swedish interior design warehouse... pretty worldwide iconic.... ?  the other week, i did have an interesting iconic experience, in an unexpected milieu.

i was in my local thrift shop (an icon in itself, actually), when i encountered a something very green and very intriguing. you know, when you stumble upon something, which you cannot define, but all the same, you sense you are staring at some golden egg or other. i wasn't too convinced at first sight, but at the ridiculous price they came in i bought three of 'em. well, sadly, there were only three.

coming home i looked closer turning the objects over and confirmed my suspicion they'd be rather swedish by design. upon encountering the PS sign, i knew i hit home. squinting my eyes i derived the name of one graeme findlay. wait  a minute. not an average name after all.

well, to make a long story short, i only bought three makalös ~ please click to find out!,  now out of production. sophie, i thank thee for a surprising theme, on jane's corner view, hosted by francesca. and today also joining sophie's flea market finds!

  6. One of the strangest thing ever seen. This had to be Swedish design, of course. And as you mentioned, Swedish design is iconic "per se". Thanks Nadine for your investigation! Can't wait to see how you're gonna use it!
Have a green and flexible day ;-)

  7. Well, you won me over because of the shape and I love green! Is it an art piece or a useful tool? Either way it is cool! xo

  9. Love the lime green. I lived in Stiockholm back in 1970 and one of my takeaways (well my folks really) was 2 coffee thermoses with bright colors and a pattern of circles: one light and darker lime green and the other yello with orange circles. I have the latter. Swedish design (by Ikea we might say) indeed.

  15. Ah, Graem Findley had/has a sense of humor! An ingenious way to hold items, but the teddy bear doesn't look all that comfortable! Still it's a cool design and unique concept. Great find, Nadine.

  16. I wonder if they actually encouraged children to pick up after themselves. If so, they would be a bestseller.

  19. Wow, great find, great shots and great link!

I've never seen these at the Swedish warehouse, but I totally get what the designer meant.

It's not the picking up that kids mind doing, it's the organizing of the shelves and the cabinets and the drawers. Most kids dislike order (Top3 and Top4 are living proof of this!) or at least the order that others have constructed for them

At the same time, kids love to plug things into other things Again, Top3 and Top4 are living proof. (They'd be dead proof if their attempts at sticking pens into unguarded wall sockets had been successful. But I'm digressing...)

So, this designer has put 2 and 2 together: Picking up and Plugging in.

    Brilliant.

what will they be grabbing in your case (toys)? totally digging the idea of sticking stuff under the table instead of tidying up ;P
