corner view ≈ thankfulness {or this must be the place}

today i'm thankful for sublime movie directing. this one is about kindness, on a subliminal level. the mixed density of the story reminds me of {to name a few} david lynch's, paul thomas anderson's or miranda july's approach to life in general, and to certain topics specifically. you need to couple down a few gears and adjust your seatbelt on this one, in order to enjoy the movie ride. of course the long cameo by white haired david byrne does help. his song HOME easily makes up the general gist of this peculiar quest.

there're tears. there're moments of spark. in most unexpected corners and in a jewish kind of way. sean penn crawls into the aging body of a pop star. {now penn would do that, would he not?} i am grateful though for his true and weathered, kind face at the end. i know it's all been about moonrise kingdom of late, but slip this paolo sorrentino movie on your to-watch-list, do. if you already viewed this marveling tragic comedy of intricate innuendoes and brainy social commentaries, then spread the word. tinyWOOLF insists. ♥ jane's corner view, francesca's hosting, kari's theme. thank YOU, kari.

ode to refined sugar

·
i'm sorry. even better than the apprentice is the young apprentice. i don't want to be cutting youngsters short, but i chuckle each time a seventeen year old comes up with a 'i'm actually going to be very angry here'. it cracks me up too.
·

·
you may have derived, dear reader, i'm not talkin' 'bout the sweet substance of sugar, but about sacharine daddy alan sugar, himself. make no mistake, it's only the media that offered him on a bbc chop block to me, and i took a cut. but i've got to hand it to him. a man who started up business at sixteen, an adult listening attentively to what people across the table have (not) to say and who hands out personal and business advice with a certain je-ne-sais-quoi, acts just like superb entertainment to me.

drawing | red riding hood aka where's wo{o}lf hiding now?

drawing challenge 24-25/12/2012 - red riding hood
several red riding hoods live in books in a few removal boxes here, still filled to the brim. i should be downloading them, but · once · more · life · did · happen · big · time. the bouncing in our house, we're touching all ceilings. in desperation i hauled out my sketchbook on the train and just got on with it. and they came: the woolfs at the door. did they evva ... do go check out patrice's in the woods this weekend.

corner view ≈ energy

E for energy and the eels, tonight
i am fascinated by letters, have been brainstorming on a alphabet for quite awhile. so far i have a W, and now an E. that makes WE, and full of energy... to draw another 24 .... ☻. jane's corner view, francesca's hosting, ale's theme.

drawing | habit

over the past few years, a gigantic habit has taken possession of me. it happens almost every weekend, involves drawing and includes many others. never before have i been this punctual nor disciplined about a recurring task. it's obvious i like it!

drawing challenge 17-18/11/2012 - habit

·
were you aware that the brittle star has a habit of breaking off arms, as a means of defense? i wasn't and i find that unnerving. imagine us breaking off an arm when under threat? would it soon leave us in limbo? would it preclude our beloved drawing challenges? ☻
kristen asked us about those.
not arms.

cupboard talk & sehnsucht {and also renov #29}

cupboard eddie, master of disaster no more, home now to kitchen paraphernalia

·
"i lived in i's garage for nigh on two years.
right at the start, i was accompanied by
lamp shades and knick knacks but
those faded month by month. our
conversation dwindled and i had to be
content with cupboard dash from the
sixties, who is talking a different language
anyway. my existence has been solitaire.
·
but unexpectedly, there came the van!
they'd been prodding me 'round the garage
a few times, each occasion throwing new
light on an otherwise quit dim situation.
but when i saw mistress coming, in good
company of a handful sturdy men, hey-ho
there we were lifted, and transported to
our new home, a kitchen outbuild."
·

cupboard dash, will house paper and books, and administration of all kinds

·
"crosswise i stood for twenty four
months, no one did touch me much
the lights came on, oh, every day, i'll say
but never to address me, no.
big talker eddie he warned me, he said
'you mark my words, it'll take long,
have you noticed mistress already
passed thrice, without further action?'
·
so, when eddie shouted me to
attention - you see, i doze off a lot,
i started hyperventilating, and their
firm grip on my 'hind didn't help,
but look at us now, though, we've
finally come back to {a new} home and
mistress's done me honour in adourning
me with a fresh plate of kitsch."
·
moo! all the way. a good morning to view farm animals

that's right! in our house, cupboards talk. sometimes dirty, often wise. i missed their conversations...
·
having missed myself this week's corner view of longing... i thought i could persue the case in true tinyWOOLF style. my camera prooved once again a magnifying-glass of standard. my destination was a castle nearby, my ultimate object of desire... catching sehnsucht. {sehnsucht, the german word for longing}

upstairs castle corridor

·
inside gaasbeek castle walls and curated by writer oscar van den boogaard, unfolds a myriad of objects of {be}longing. and then some.
·
for the occasion all viewable rooms were obscured but for blue filtered daylight, which intensify the experience of melancholy (and put a damper on any photographic ambition, unless armed with outstanding apparatus, which i was not).
·
it didn't however lessen the fun, nor the intention.
·

kim de hert, an ode to a vintage flemish radio programme, featuring a wall mounted talking deer's head called kim

·
after a crazy week of both office and home turbulence, one needs to stop and go. outside. and listen. and look. and breathe.
·
there is a lot more that came my way, and for good measure, this is viewable here
·
i was extremely lucky with dry weather, by the way, and walked for seven miles. ♥

loitering in ath (B)

meringue and vol-au-vent puff pastry

·
a dark, drab and dreary sunday spent indoors? appealing! daring yourself into trailing off somewhere, on a whim? yes, please.
·
i decided the latter before the rains came. and they came.
·

pretending

·
i rushed to a walloon cafe where i whiled for an hour, calling for a de beauvoir moment (in the form of prolific contemporary equivalent jc oates}, all through a fiery red apéritif and a hot, hot homemade soup.
·

amazing and huge glass ball in apothecary window

·
here i sat, looking, listening, writing*, waiting, for my train to hurry me back home. ha! home.
·
now for that sunday spent indoors! and would you believe the sun is shining again... ☻
·
there's more, as usual.
·

is it a marina? is it tv? is it a train window?

·
* if you want to find out what i've been writing, or if you feel you have an itching editing ambition, or if you happen to know someone who has (and who would like to lend a critical eye), please let me know. i am in need of splendid grammatical (and probably composite) dissection.
·
if you do, drop me a line. i'll elaborate.

drawing | abbild

the word (the way it sounds in german) has kept me on guard. in flemish it is afbeeldinghaving rummaged in my vintage box for previous post inspiration, i decided to play about in my simonnetta, for a change. ☻ ps - what an incredible fantin-latour interpretation, ariane! you have shot a more than graceful image of the original painting. abbild-er, chez ariane this weekend.
