drawing | water

beyond this house lies a shallow creek. over its bed runs clear water. ducks sometimes fly in and over the water. its bank keeps winter sheep at bay. even when you don't see the water, you can hear it, in the back of the house's garden. patrice's drawing challenge of water this weekend. can i just say, i deeply appreciate your marks of empathy. they learn me, time and again, each and every one of us, at intervals, sails troubled waters. i do am infinitely grateful for your sensibilities. i carry thee, in my ♥

corner view ≈ in the distance

see what happens? words happen. jane's corner view, francesca's hosting, kelleyn's theme

drawing | connect

sometimes in order to connect we must abort. i've been watching MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA, off and on, expecting my son to walk into the room. but he will not. he's done a stupid, stupid thing, and he will pay for it. is paying for it now. why this movie? because i needed distraction and disconnection from familiarity, so i can pick up again. why share this? because i wish not to lie nor pretend.
{also, i have no drawing at the ready.☻} kristen's challenge of connections here

corner view ≈ travel

i like to think i'm adventurous. from home. as with travel. one of the oldest labels on this blog has been travel, even more so on my previous blog (in flemish). i have a soft spot for the commodity. i do actually believe travel starts at home and awaits us afresh, every ordinary day. so when harry dan stanton mused upon his line "... just an ordinary trip down the grocery store was full of adventure ...in PARIS, TEXAS, i so knew what he meant.

i am definitely not your reckless traveler, too old for that. i've just as much traveled the world by visiting corner viewer's homesteads as i've literally moved about. and if nearby london is the only place i can go to from now on, i shall not complain. as a matter of fact... jane's corner view, francesca's hosting, theresa's theme.

blue, green and black prairie

sun and sky held us under a sunday spell. and isn't photography the sweetest liar, offering images, omitting sound. birds' songs drowned in petrol-laden four wheel drives, motor cycle vehicles and a quad too much. 't was almost an involuntary day at the races, while my lens stubbornly zoomed in on desolate fields and ramshackle vistas and ephemera. all i saw was the prairie.

drawing | hair

·
·
hair wouldn't have attracted me if it didn't also bear a hold on me because of its quirk. i'll admit it's from its quirk i got my this week's inspiration.
·
·
{here's an energetic 1968 zen version of the bbc3 television score.}
·
·
on this occasion, belgian artist patrick van den eynde's enthralling painted hairdos sprang to mind. here's a photographic image of his late eighties work in progress, the original and finished painting (backgrounds in aubergine) somewhere in the regions of 2x2.5 m.
·
·
spring led me into the garden for my sketch, albeit a late august scene i'm inserting. i couldn't shake the image, when some plants show off autumnul hair. i've not ever seen this anemone patens for real. i would like to! {inspired by a mary vaux wallcott original drawings.}

thanks to all for playing! you're such a wonderful bunch. it'll be fun getting together and playing live, this summer. thanks for messaging your plans about this summer drawing challenge event. anyone who can't make it, we will try to go www live too, although by all means, we still need to figure out how. do check out barbara's pages this weekend, as she's been working hard looking up a perfect summer location, and she'll be telling all. thxs, barbara, for your big help already. cheerio. enjoy the sun, if you're having any. we are! ♥

corner view ≈ renewal

francesca was right, last week stating my diy intentions'd perfectly fit the bill in this week's theme. as i've already spilled the beans on this one, i will now officially unveil the second renewal project. jane's corner view, francesca's hosting, karyn's theme.

i've assembled mix'n'match coat hangers to be united for the first time in their lives.

sanding, painting, sanding and painting prompted the individual hangers into an ensemble they will not easily forget. neither will i!

having caused me enough pain already in the additional care, stubbornness and single mindedness department,  ....

·

.... i had to bring in a small deer's head for consolation,

that is also telling the temperature.

so i can honestly say,

we are now having 15 °C in the entrance hall way.

moderately mild for this month of march.

·
job done. right above the coat hangers i constructed a {presently still empty} shelf to rest frames upon, that'll probably need a redo. if it's not one thing....

the case of the foot stool {in other words the third project}, to be continued! actually; having taken up again small renovation finishing projects, i feel quite renewed. i have {spring} courage to go on! please find below the culprit who's been taking up most of my winter time. as you see it is now halfway, and i might just leave it at that. colourful enough as it is, no?

the case of the chagrined floor lamp

·
gently lifted from my godfather's home, i rescued the disused lamp from the scrap heap.
as i set to work on it, i began to fall out of love with the work involved.
i did tear out the electrics, started sanding, then stopped.
clearly i had to reconsider the item.
·

·
this lamp really begs to be out in the open.
·
it says, really, gimme ground!
·
so there it is.
·
as is.
·
over the moon to hang out with the birds {who will not model, of course},
·
offering dandy plant space at the bottom of any birdy action,
·
future vintage rust guaranteed in our northern hemisphere climate.
·
·
·
chagrined floor lamp case closed.

DRAWING CHALLENGE NEW THEME |

in general, it doesn't care for a crop, semi or long mode. truth be told, it doesn't always do what we want it to do. when we've got it, we flaunt it. when we're without, we're generally sad. we cut it off rigourously however, in places where we really do not want it. let's hear it, for...

drawing | vase

i like flowers as they bud, and i like them as they wilt.
they sculpturize, if you catch my drift.
{naturally i also like them when they're in full bloom!}
as it is, i offer you wilted flowers anyway, .....
..... or empty vases even. and those vases are a figment of my imagination, because in reality on vineyard street there're just two meagre eagles atop monumental pilasters, so i needed to dream up a couple of ornamental urns. and the colour pink; rose as pink as rose's pretty vases this weekend.
