drawing | garden {blame it on gris}

·
i found this image in a book  in the thrift shop on thursday. serendipity is a fickle thing, and i love riding its waves, especially if i don't need to make any efforts. i didn't have my glasses on and i honestly thought this was a plan for a garden! further inspection learnt me it wasn't, but my mind got set.
·
the drawing sits in the book GETTING TO MANANA, by miranda innes.

·
i took a day off {renovation} work and ended up in the verge near the river, eatin' my green beans on double toast.
·
mark the new blue on the thumb nail, if you please. much tinier and a lot less painful than the first blue-on-toe. colouring my renov days like it's nobody's business.

·
earlier this week i found myself doing similar tricks in my own garden {lifting up my food to the air}. search me why!
·
son cut me a plaster free sandwich and i ate it, sitting on the back porch steps, soaking up the spring sun (before he curbed 'round the tall douglas tree).

·
though my pencil initially flew over the pages the classic way, i then wondered if i could give my sketching a certain effect?
·
nothing fancy, but squares and ton-sur-ton never fail to grab me. after all, i did initially envisage an abstract tinge.
{keep this sketch in mind a little for what follows}.

·
a juan gris effect {brought to my attention on friday} emerged. i can't say i've much heard of him, but his paintings seem to ring a familiar bell.
·
how i could have done with renilde's expertise on the subject of placing the wheres and whats in my tiny garden-to-be! this playing kept me off that other adventure just long enough to fully enjoy the challenge though.
cheers, renilde ...

  1. Patchwork of form and colour, yes that's the start of a garden allright, your drawing is just inspirational and beautiful, love it ;air for the great outdoors, tray for happy hours and cosy gatherings or just for a private yummie snack and green to sooth and uplift the spirit.
And oh the potential of your bare garden plot, and seeing it grow over the years, filling it with colour and scent, you are going to enjoy that.
The poor thumb...some fine gardening gloves perhaps...
Thanks for participating while being so busy dear, xx

  2. The first thing I saw was your poor sore thumb. And then your delicious sandwich.
You might be interested to know dear Woolfy, that I am following in your renovation footsteps...no bruised thumbs (yet) but plaster, plaster everywhere. At the mo I have snowy white plaster hair. Very fetching.

We decided (after that last o.t.t. quote) to do it ourselves. Decision made. No going back. New appliances bought. Tiles stripped, walls/cornices patched and sanded, bench tops ordered. Kitchen first then the rest. Blah, blah...you know the score. I'll keep you posted x

p.s. I do like your "patchwork"

    1. francesca,
i hadn't noticed, and your observation has me in a cramp this morning! something more like for your area, innit, a summer and winter kitchen?
i do know the woman is now living in italy! perhaps you can look her up, she might live just round the corner from you? ;)))

  7. Dear Nadine, I was wondering where should I place my studio...? and decided that Dan's studio next to lemon tress will be just perfect.

Delicious sandwiches and very impressive worker's hands...;-)

  11. now I wanna sit in your gris-patchwork-garden - it looks so beautiful with all the fantastic colours. your story is funny and your sandwiches looks so nice - I love this post! : )
ps: my boxes are not available now - because it's a project for one year. in jan 2013 there is an exhibition of 366 boxes...

  12. Kers, you probably will not be surprised that I read your blogs from the bottom up. I first saw the first sandwich and the blue thumbnail and wondered...hmmmmm...I wonder what that delish looking sandwich is...as I always wonder when I see your food...and then I thought aw..must me a renovation 'hurt' on the thumb. Then I went to the bottom and read up...sure enough..I was right.♥

  13. How beautiful ... funnily enough I've had gardens on my mind lately and just today ventured out and about to do some much needed garden bed measurements. I adore your use of colour. :)

  15. Its nearly an anniversary of blue nails, isn't it,
    dear Nadeschda?

Wonderful journey from casa miranda to your great drawing. And I have to say... I love your THUMBS holding the tea tray for our honey, honey, in your garden.

    Love,

  16. Green beans on double toast, I like this idea. What else is on there?

    1. oh yes. there's a garlicky yoghurt-mustard-parsley-(generous helping of freshly ground)-black pepper-dressing on there. ... over here this combination, if accompanied by crispy baked pancetta, we call salade liègeoise, after the walloon city. i don't know why that is though.
