corner view ≈ darkness and light

in the morning, as i wake up, i've started noticing a douglas fir's branches bending in the wind, in shadows on the opposite wall from my bed. i'm sure it's been there forever, but i've only started seeing it now. sharp shadows remind me of my years in college, when i pushed my analog images way beyond tolerance. i have always had a soft spot for hard contrasts, darkness and light being my personal sibling rivals. jane's corner view, francesca's hosting, dorte's theme.

    I'd even go so far to assert that the sibling rivalry of darkness and light can be taken as an allegory for the whole life.

    Love that picture, by the way.
    The emptiness raises questions...questions of what has happened to life in this town, that disappears in a blurry background..."bonjour tristesse" and "early morning peace and calm" both in one...

    I walk down memory lane... even I pushed my b/w films, big grain, small number of grey between black and white... sometimes too hard. But your photo here, heaven! it is both.. at least... contrasted and soft. Enigmatic devoid of people and inhabited... you show houses! Fantastic art, Dear.

    PS. Yes, I have painted the vase with silverdust, ahem, pigments. But for me it looks too much like aluminium. I have just painted it with a mixture of silver, gold and graphite... yummy! :)

    beautiful to think how light and shadows we notice change with age!!

    darkness and light. a worthy theme. (i too, watch the shadows in the morning, cast by the maple tree outside my bedroom window.) funny you should be writing about the morning in relation to darkness and light - i've posted a poem (not mine) that you might find apropos, over at my place. curious what you think of it. it may not speak to you as it did to me - poetry is like that…

    i'm a big fan of b/w photography, not distracted by color i seem to see the subject clearer, the details, the bones of the image (can you say that?)
    beautiful shot.
